Why we built this

The Problem - Too Many Confusing Government SMS Sender IDs

Before gov.sg SMS, government agencies used over 501 different sender IDs to contact citizens. This created confusion and made it easy for scammers to impersonate government communications. Citizens couldn't tell which messages were real or fake, leading many to simply ignore important government updates.

Our Mission - Build Trust and Stop Scams

We built gov.sg SMS to create a secure, trusted channel that only the government can use. By consolidating all government SMS communications under one recognizable sender ID, "gov.sg", we're making it easier for citizens to identify genuine government messages at a glance, trust important communications from agencies, and avoid falling victim to government impersonation scams.

What we've built

Unified gov.sg SMS Platform (postman.gov.sg)

We built Postman, a secure government platform that enables all government agencies to send SMS messages through one unified "gov.sg" sender ID. This infrastructure ensures citizens receive important government communications quickly and reliably.

Citizen Information Hub (sms.gov.sg)

We created a public facing website where citizens can verify which agencies use the gov.sg sender ID, report suspicious messages, and access comprehensive FAQs. This hub serves as the central resource for citizens to understand and interact with the Postman Team.

Enhanced Security Features

We implemented multiple layers of security including IP whitelisting that ensures only authorized government systems can send gov.sg messages, secured connections from government systems to the telecommunication networks, and strict access controls that limit who can create and send government messages. These measures protect the integrity of the gov.sg channel against unauthorized use and impersonation.

What our users say

Now I know when I see gov.sg, it is really from the government. Much clearer than before when there were so many different sender names.
